A note from Michael Parkes—The most challenging subjects for a sculpture are ones that have broad, esoteric or cosmological themes. The power of the new moon, and the beauty of the earth bathed in moonlight are very difficult subjects to portray in a painting, much less a sculpture. In Moonstruck, the sleeping angel represents the dappled calm of the night sky. She holds a shining moon in her hand while the North Star shimmers under her wing.
